Getting to know…Angela Craigan

Angela Craigan is a partner at Harbinson Mulholland Accountants and is married to Paul and mum to 10-year-old Nicole and six-year-old Ethan.

Q: How did you get to where you are today?

A: Hard work and determination.

I have also been fortunate enough to work with people who give opportunities to those willing to take them.

Q: What advice would you give to someone starting out in business?

A: Make sure you have a good support system both within the business and outside the business.

Recognise the areas which are not your strengths and ask others with those skills to join your team.

Q: Is there someone who inspires you to succeed?

A: Every entrepreneur I encounter.

Q: Tell me about the greatest challenge you have faced.

A: Asking for help – I have always been very independent and, as a result, used to find asking for help extremely difficult.

This is fine when you are just looking after yourself but once you are juggling a full-time job, children (and the activities that come with them), a house, and ageing parents, on occasion you need to ask others to help you out.

I now realise that it is okay to admit you need help.

In fact, by doing so you open the door for others to ask you to return the favour and often ease pressure for them as well as yourself.

Q: If you weren’t in your current role what would you be?

A: To be honest I think I would be working in hospitality.

I really enjoy working with people and love the fact that my job allows me to deal with different clients on a daily basis.

Q: What has been the high point in your career?

A: Being invited to join the partnership in Harbinson Mulholland.

I have always really respected the other partners in the firm and have learnt a lot from them over the years.

I feel extremely honoured to be invited to join them in running the firm.

Q: Can women have it all?

A: Of course they can, but they need to decide what that ‘all’ is and it’s very different for everyone.

Q: What’s the last book you read?

A: ‘I Invited Her In’ by Adele Parks.

Q: When you’re not in the office, where can you be found?

A: In the park with Ethan and Nicole and the dog.
